Notice
Prélude by F Mâche, composed for three separate spatial channels, comprises seven sequences. The general form is an asymmetrical ‘delta’; the same form, on a smaller scale, forms the structure of several series of sound objects emerging from harmonic and then rhythmic frames. The form of the work does not correspond to any classical or exotic musical schema, but rather, as a tribute to Maurice Scève, illustrates the relationship between macrocosm and microcosm.
In the end, the expressive content of the work is more apparent and relevant than its architecture. Its rhythmic violence, “terrifying” according to Messiaen, is that of love and the ocean. In this sense, it was a “prelude” to my research into the imitation of sound models.
