Notice

In 2006 I recorded the morning vocalisations of a large gibbon, the siamang, in a forest in Thailand. Listening to these recordings again recently, I was struck by their beauty and wanted to share my admiration. Chani (gibbon, in Indonesian) is an extract chosen from my recordings. It has been transcribed in order to coordinate it with a piccolo clarinet whose timbre bears a certain resemblance to it. Monkey calls have a very bad reputation, but with this example where the two musicians cooperate, I hope to correct an abusive generalisation. The virtuosity of Armand Angster, to whom I have dedicated this short exercise, should go a long way towards helping me win this bet.
