Notice

Rasna is the name by which the Etruscans called themselves. The work, for solo voice, uses extracts from the longest surviving Etruscan text, inscribed on the strips of a mummy. The texts are presumed to be religious, but cannot be translated. However, their pronunciation is known approximately. Two arias from the opera Temboctou (1982) were reworked to form the work, which was premiered in Paris on December 5, 1984 by Esther Lamandier during the Festival d’Art Sacré.
