Notice
AULODIE, whose title is borrowed from Ancient Greece (the word refers to both singing and the oboe), exists in three versions: oboe or soprano saxophone or piccolo clarinet, always with recorded sounds. The work was composed in 1983, and premiered the same year in Amsterdam and New York. The recorded part was produced in the composer’s personal studio, with elements that were sometimes acoustic and sometimes synthesised at CEMAMU on an Upic system. It uses sounds produced by digital synthesis and others of instrumental origin; both were then processed using one of the very first sampling keyboards on the market, Publison’s DHM real-time digital processor. The work can be defined as a scherzo in which the two partners provoke, confront and dodge each other before merging.
